Doctor of Medicine – MD

The degree of Doctor of Medicine is the School of Medicine’s senior higher degree and may be taken by approved candidates as a supervised research program.

The course is an approved supervised program of not less than two years full-time research (or equivalent part-time). The research program must be considered to represent a substantial contribution to knowledge, and be relevant to the theory and practice of medicine.

Admission requirements are an approved MBBS degree or recognised equivalent of at least two years standing that has been approved for admission by the Faculty.

Application procedure and admission requirements

Applicants should consult with the relevant Head of Department for the discipline concerned for consideration. Application forms are available from the Research Development Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the School of Medicine Office or the School of Medicine website: http://www.medicine.unimelb.edu.au/docs/MDApplicationForm.pdf .

Applications should be completed and should be returned to the Head of Department through which you wish to apply for endorsement. The application and accompanying documentation should then be forwarded to the Manager, Research Higher Degrees, Research Development Unit, Level 4, 766 Elizabeth Street, Parkville VIC 3010. Applicants who are not graduates of The University of Melbourne must attach original or certified documentary evidence of their medical qualifications.
