Master of Surgery – MS

The degree of Master of Surgery comprises two parts. The Department of Ophthalmology offers Part II – by research only. This can only be taken by candidates given an exemption from Part I.

Applicants may be granted exemption from Part I of the examination for the Degree of Master of Surgery if they have passed a comparable examination offered by an approved body. To view those approved to date visit: http://www.medicine.unimelb.edu.au/future/pgrad.html and select Master of Surgery.

Application procedure and admission requirements

Applicants should consult with the relevant Head of Department for the discipline concerned. Application forms are available from the Research Development Unit, Faculty of Medicine, Dentistry and Health Sciences, the School of Medicine Office or the School of Medicine website: http://www.medicine.unimelb.edu.au/docs/MDApplicationForm.pdf.

Applications should be completed and returned to the Head of Department through which you wish to apply for endorsement. The application and accompanying documentation should then be forwarded to the Manager, Research Higher Degrees, Research Development Unit, Level 4, 766 Elizabeth Street, Parkville VIC 3010. Applicants who are not graduates of The University of Melbourne must attach original or certified documentary evidence of their medical qualifications. All applicants should attach a detailed Curriculum Vitae. Applicants trained overseas must attach proof of meeting the University’s English language requirements. Admission requirements are an approved MBBS degree or recognised equivalent of at least two years’ standing and not less than two years’ experience as a medical officer in a hospital affiliated to an appropriate university for the purposes of teaching. Exemption from Part I and approved for admission by the Faculty.
