Professor Hugh Taylor AC
received the Mildred Weisenfeld Award

WHO Collaborating Centre for the Prevention of Blindness designation renewed for a third time to 2006

Victorian Government granted $1.8m over three years to Vision 2020 Australia to fund The Vision Initiative, a program that grew directly out of the Centre for Eye Research Australia's research findings and public health and health promotion activities.

Dr Robyn Guymer
received the prestigious Amgen Medical Researcher Award

Dr Deb Colville
receieves the AMA Woman in Medicine Award

In 2002 the Eye Health Promotion Unit of the centre was awarded a Public Health and Development Award for Research Excellence for its work in the prevention of vision loss from diabetes.

Professor Hugh Taylor AC
receieves the Vision Australia Foundation Award for 2002.

Ms Tamara Pollard
recognised as the Top Statistics Student for the 2002 Master of Public Health course.

Two papers from VECAT were selected as being in the nine most important papers out of over 5,000 presented at the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) in 2001.

Vision 2020: The Right ot Sight Australia launched.

1999

The Epidemiology Research Unit, in conjunction with the Eye Health Promotion Unit, received the 1999 Public Health and Development Award for Research Excellence.
