Trachoma Grading - Self Directed Learning

Trachoma is a disease of poor personal and community hygiene affecting those living in the poorest conditions. It has long since disappeared from most developed countries but remains hyperendemic in many of the poorer developing nations of the world, particularly those in dry and dusty regions. In 1998 the WHO launched an initiative aimed at the Global Elimination of Trachoma by 2020 (GET 2020). It advocates the control of trachoma at the community level using a four pronged approach called the SAFE strategy: Surgery for trichiasis, Antibiotics for active trachoma, Facial cleanliness and Environmental improvement.

Trachoma Grading – Self Directed Learning  is an interactive educational CD-ROM.  This CD-ROM contains lessons explaining background information on trachoma and detailed lessons on each of the signs used for grading trachoma with the WHO simplified grading system. These lessons also provide an instructional video for everting an eyelid and instructions for trichiasis examination. 
At the end of each lesson a quiz is provided to practise trachoma grading with real photographs.  The answers to each quiz  include feedback and an explanation of  the correct grading.  The CD-ROM allows for easy navigation between lessons and quizzes to quickly revise or practice grading each sign.
