Fundraising Results

Thanks to our donors’ support, the Eye Research Australia Foundation has proudly supported the following projects at the Centre for Eye Research Australia in recent years:

2007

$65,000 to the Clinical Epidemiology, Clinical Research and Basic Science Divisions to purchase an Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) machine.

$5,000 to the Lions Donation Service and Eye Bank to support travel of Dr Christine Wittig to attend the Annual Meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology and the International Cross-Linking Congress in Zurich in December 2007.

$2,700 to the Clinical Research Division to assist in the completion of the study ‘In vivo Imaging of Leucocyte-Endothelial Dynamics in Ocular Inflammatory Diseases’.

$25,485 to Corporate Services to purchase a computer back up system to manage all research databases and thousands of images.

$11,500 to RetVIC, Clinical Epidemiology Division for installation of computerized grading stations (with advanced graphics card) to supplement Menzies Foundation funding application (for research assistant and epidemiologist) to further the DRUID studies.

$15,000 to Macular Research Unit, Ocular Genetics Unit, Clinical Research Division to contribute to fund a Research Assistant salary.

2006

$19,689 To support the Corneal Unit in the trial of collagen cross linking

$21,600 To support the Glaucoma / Basic Science Unit’s purchase of a nano drop spectrophotometer and a co2 incubator with sterilization feature.

$13,000 To support the Health Services Research Division of the Population Health Unit in their ARC funded randomised control trial "living with low vision"

$5,900 To support the Clinical Genetics Unit’s purchase of an IOPac advanced pachymeter.

$60,000 To support the Retinal Vascular Imaging Centre, which officially opened in May 2006.

$25,000 For the work of the Population Health Division -  Prevention of Blindness Unit, headed by Jill Keefe.

2005

$42,000 Supported the Ocular Genetics “The Genes in Myopia Study” headed by Dr Paul Baird (pledged in 2004).

$90,000 To the Population Health Division – Prevention of Blindness Unit. Headed by Jill Keefe.

$40,000 Supported the development of the Retinal Vascular Imaging Centre, to provide Australia with world-leading capability in the diagnostic analysis of retinal images for early detection of heart disease, stroke, diabetes, hypertension, dementia, kidney disease and other vascular conditions.

$2,500 For the clinical trials of A/Professor David Mackey, who is investigating the genetic links associated with Glaucoma.

$23,000 Support for the work of A/Professor Robyn Guymer and her work into Age-related Macular Degeneration.

2004

$80,000 Supported the work of the Clinical Research Unit in their investigations into the causes of Age-related Macular Degeneration.
